- Ni Hao! I'm Katie and I go to Canisius College. I'm studying abroad in Beijing for Spring '08, at the Beijing Center for Chinese Studies. I am an anthropology major with a minor in world religions, so naturally, I'm super-excited to study abroad in a new culture! While here, I cannot see my actual blog page, I can only post to it, so if there's mistakes and such, that's why. Congratulations on making the leap and moving to China for a while! It is so brave to go to such a different culture and let yourself be immersed. No wonder you miss the people back home though. My best friend moved to Shanghai after we graduated college in 2006 and it was really tough (also considering the time difference is, yep, 12 HOURS!) but you know that.
Anyway, we have kept in really good touch using a free video message service called ooVoo that I started working for. It is super easy to use with a friendly platform, but better than that, it uses much less bandwidth than programs like skype, so the quality is a lot better-even when chatting with 6 people at once (according to other bloggers-we don't have much need for that). Lots of times when he comes home from going out he will call me when I'm studying and it is really funny.
I have also used it to send video emails to my friends on their birthday's so I am MVP of the group. ha!
